it can't be said that i'm not at least semi-productive. i updated transmission3000 a bit today. i added a couple of links to the sidebar and even tacked my aim address at the bottom of the page. and i'm now on disc 2 of final fantasy ix. i'm just a regular overachieving motherfucker. gotta reach for that brass ring, you know.
the top 10 (not in order) things i did today while off work:
1. sleep
2. sit there
3. play playstation 2
4. eat pizza
5. check my
6. eat ice cream
7. check my again
8. write email
9. talk to the landlords about the monster living in the ceiling
10. write this post
there you have it, ladies and gentlemen! the prime example of doing nothing constructive! right on.
i think paul might be mad at me. i meant well, man. really. i did.
news items you already know about: radiohead's new album (due in march or april of next year) will be titled amnesiac. and the new guns and roses album, chinese democracy, finally has a release date. but you already know all this…
and because you've been good boys and girls, here's an mp3 of the reworking of "the national anthem" that radiohead did for the bbc. enjoy. [courtesy of radioheadfans.com]
tomorrow i return to work. the fun will end soon enough…
*footnote: i really love the blogedit tag…
i have done absolutely nothing today. i woke up, checked my email, and proceeded to park my skinny ass in front of the playstation. once again…the best part about being sick is not having to "do" anything. i'm enjoying it.
and i'm not really all that sick, either. i've got a bit of the sore throat, but it's been hangin' out for days. the sniffles thing is only coming on in short little bouts. i just wish this one would stop creeping up on me and get it over with.
matthew has run across a goldmine of ridiculous websites. the best of which can be found here and here. i just wish that the two were related. that would be too much.
rage against the machine has released an album of cover material (great legacy, zack…). it includes such classics as "in my eyes" by minor threat and "street fighting man" by the rolling stones. i've downloaded both of those tracks and…man…i just don't get it.
james hetfield — ( i get this one quite a bit, so there must be something to it )
brian johnson — ? ( lead singer of AC/DC — i've gotten this one once, and i really don't see it. )
christopher walken — ?? ( again, once. again, HUH? )
i don't know how i feel about all this…
it seems i'm starting to come down with what is known (not very) affectionately as "my yearly cold." around this time last year, i found myself out at 1:30 in the morning with a temperature of 105 (i am not lying!) trying to find someplace open to buy a sprite. i was clearly delirious. and now it's begun…the sniffles are slowly trying to drive me mad, and the sore throat has been hanging out for the better part of a week. don't we just love the winter?
on the way into work i listened to one of my favorite albums of all time: gentlemen by the afghan whigs. it's just an alcohol soaked moan of loss. if you don't already own it, i suggest you pick it up. this is your only warning.
i hunger…i am going to lunch early today.
why is it that 95% of the people that call tech support lines are complete fucking idiots? i used to hear all these little war stories and tech support in-jokes and laugh them off…but now that i'm here, i'm starting to understand just how maddening it is. you have to make jokes about this crap or you'll go insane.
i'm getting prepped to pull an early lunch. i'm really hungry, and there ain't shit going on around here. shouldn't be a problem. i've switched teams (at work. no, i am not gay now. thank you) and everything seems cool over here. now maybe i won't have to feel like i'm sneaking out to take an early lunch. we'll just have to put that to the test, though, won't we?
we've decided around here that we must cover the bowie classic, china girl. it seems that it has become our calling and it must be heeded. if we actually get around to doing it, we'll record it and post an mp3. that way you can all laugh at us. as if you needed another excuse…
after four hours of sleep, i think i'm qualified to say it…i'm tired. very very tired. i'm as tired as a youth hockey league coach after a couple of beers and a long morning of "slappin' the puck around". if you know what i mean.
i did absolutely nothing yesterday. in the spirit of doing nothing, i opted not to update. a sincere apology for you saturday readers…all three of you. i figured you deserved more than "i am playing final fantasy ix and enjoying the hell out of it. oh yes…i ate some kfc earlier." i think you can appreciate my restraint.
i did very little browsing yesterday. i pretty much spent the day camped out in front of the tv. this was actually mildly entertaining, mostly due to the fact that i haven't done it in a long time. paul finally rolled over to the house later in the evening. he got fairly wasted when we were out bowling and drinking saturday night, and he wasn't feeling too well yesterday. but after taking a couple of naps, he was ready to face the world. his idea of facing he world, of course, was picking up some arby's and doing a bunch of nothing with us. always a good time, right?
i guess i really can't post a top eight cds of the week…i've only been listening to the ones i bought while in chicago. so in the spirit of fairness…i'll post…
the cds i bought in chicago:
superchunk – here's where the strings come in
turing machine – new machine for living
hoover – lurid traversal of route 7
fugazi – in on the kill taker (a repurchase…i have it on vinyl)
and that's about all she wrote for now. it's a little too early in the day for anything interesting to have happened.
well. first post from my new computer haven at home. i've finally managed to get everything set up, all my old files transferred from the crappy old laptop i've been borrowing from my dad for the past year & a half, and am beginning the process of installing all those applications that i don't (but should) use on a daily basis.
it's been a rather uneventful day here at casa de bipolar. didn't get a glimpse of the puffin until late in the evening due to the alcoholic stupor he found himself in after last night's festivities.
thanks go out to tim for the link to the nocturnes he sent me. there are quite a few really good pics in the different exhibits there, check 'em out. oh, and as tim pointed out, it really isn't a goth site.
also, from the nocturnes, i found this little gem. what can i say, i'm a sucker for anything science related.
kerry blessed us with an update today, and while i've been enjoying her cryptic little two to four line posts, it's nice to see something more substantial.
and finally, here's a nice little rant on rockout.org about the enraging practice of video & DVD publishers who try (often, successfully) to sell us the same thing over & over again.
yeah.
i've been trying unsuccessfully to download some stuff off of hotline for the past 24 hours. granted, i haven't been doing this around the clock, which i could with our new dsl line, so that's probably why i haven't gotten what i want yet.
i got a new keyboard last night. this is one of those things that was long overdue. until last night i was still puttering around on the packard bell standard keyboard that shipped with my old 486 all those years ago. getting a new keyboard always makes you feel like you have a new computer. probably because i've been using the same old keyboard for so long…
yet another reason i love napster: i've been downloading mp3s of all the superchunk b-sides and stuff that i have on vinyl. due to multiple factors (my turntable is busted from me punching it and i'm just generally lazy), i am not able to encode these songs for myself. so viva la free shit.
i'll be hanging out with matt, paul, guy, and maybe scott tonight, so good fun should be had. i'm glad my antisocial tendencies of the past couple of weeks are winding down.
the dull ache that is my life continues to suck the inspiration from projects i thoroughly enjoy–such as this oh-so-lovely blog.
scott over at erasing.org has posted some recent photographs that have been somewhat inspiring to me today. most of them are very good, some of them are moderately good, and a few of them just look like snapshots.
i have to say that i really enjoy photography, though i know very little about the technical aspects of it. i enjoy candid photos–not "snapshots", but carefully framed candid shots where the subjects aren't posing, and the photographer has taken time to find a good composition. of all my little projects that have fallen by the wayside, i probably regret my neglect of photography the most, probably because it would be the easiest thing to do while doing everything else that occupies my time. i could theoretically carry a camera (even a disposable!) around with me everywhere, and never have to say "if i only had a camera" like i currently do almost everyday.
if anyone knows of some other online photo galleries, collections, personal stashes, or whatever, .
hopefully either this weekend or sometime next week, we'll finally get the trip log and photos from our chicago trip up like we promised weeks ago, and maybe–if you're lucky–we'll actually finish the new bipolar as well. now that i've got this (sort-of) new computer and blazin 'net access, i'll actually be able to devote a little time to it.
i've been sitting around the majority of the day. doing nothing. re-discovering napster and my intense love for it. i used to be quite the napster dude, when i worked at kinko's. i'd come into work in the morning, fire up napster, search for some stuff, set it all up to download, and let it all run throughout the day. i would slap all my newly pilfered beauties onto zip discs and take 'em home. nothing like a hard fought war against the man.
but i used napster last night for a very noble reason. i downloaded the entire machine ii album by the smashing pumpkins for paul. it's a record of b-sides and extra tracks from their last album. only having pressed enough copies for their friends, it's quite the rare item. well now paul will be getting it for christmas.
speaking of christmas, i plan on sending out transmission3000 shows on cd as christmas cards this year. so if you think you're on the christmas card list and you know what show you want, . i've already got a little list going on, but any help will be appreciated.
back to doing nothing…
