2003.02.24 london calling:
did anyone catch the grammys last night? i missed it. i was at work. the only reason i care is because springsteen, elvis costello, dave grohl, and some others did a tribute to joe strummer and the clash, covering "london calling." if you taped it or know where i can find an mp3, or post a comment. thank you kindly.
edit: found it. if you want an mp3, you can find it here.

I taped it. But I dunno, man…it was pretty weak. Great musicians, but it just didn't play out in my opinion.

i just wanted to hear it because i missed it.

kool that they played it, but man, either grohl or springsteen (or both!) sounded like the freakin' Raiders linemen; pretty much drowning out elvis and really, any subtleties the song had were pretty much 'growled' to death…

grohl was playing drums, as far as i know. that's all "the boss."

dave grohl was playing guitar and singing. i have it on tape if you'd like to see it.

i totally agree. great musicians, but together it just didn't work. they bulldozed through it, rather than picking up on the subtle beauty of the song. elvis was the only one who *knew* what he was doing, and he was just bullied by springsteen singing with rocks in his mouth.. and i love springsteen.
