2003.10.16 you've been shown over and over:

i know, i know…it's been a while. whatever. we stopped kidding ourselves about how often i was going to update this place a long time ago, didn't we? no? well get with the damn program.

anyhowways…i'm excited. they launched itunes for windows today. i fell in love with the program when i was using brooksie's computer all the time. i wish he'd upgrade to os x so we could sync up our playlists, though. just another factor to make me wish i had an ipod.

note to those that care…there is an ipod on my amazon wishlist. i'm just sayin'…

i've also found a plugin for winamp that will allow it to play aac files encoded by itunes.

as many of you may have already discovered, there's an awesome online game that's sprung up surrounding the release of the newest matrix movie. you can start out on the metacortex home page. if you're looking for more information on the game and what has been discovered so far, check out the aptly named the guide. happy hunting.

i narrowly avoided getting brained by a shower of hedge apples on the way into work. i was riding down the road with my moonroof open and then, all of a sudden about 5 feet in front of my car, about 40 of the suckers came dropping out of a tree up ahead, smashing to the ground. i stopped short and closed that moonroof right quick.

other than that…i bit the bullet and added google ads to transmission3000. we've got some pretty hefty service bills to pay (considering we did around 92 gigs of traffic last month and we're on pace to break that this month), so we can use all the help we can get. they're little text ads and you can find them under the right hand side bar on the main page as well as on the radio, info and links pages. the bands page remains ad free. as if there's anything important on those other pages, anyway. feel free to click them if anything being advertised catches your fancy (hint, hint). you can still donate to the transmission3000 server fund directly, as well.

and…that's about it, i think.

2003.09.29 from this town, we'd escape:

i set out to get a bunch of stuff done, this weekend. i wanted to do some writing. i meant to check up on the status of some amp repairs i'm having done. i should have encoded a new oxes show i got for transmission3000.

but what i ended up doing is seeing lost in translation, doing a whole lot of drinking, spent saturday farting around town with brooksie and then going to see my morning jacket rock their hearts out, last night.

and now i'm sitting here at work, almost ready to clock out for the day (night), feeling tired and down about just about everything. i never seem to get anything done. hell…even this post is feeling rather half baked. i've been feeling trapped by every little thing, lately. i've felt like i need to find the reset button on my life and press it a few good times.

just for the sake of argument, though….lost in translation was good. incredibly good. probably the best movie i've seen all year. funny and heartwrenching at the same time. if you haven't seen it yet…do so asap.

2003.09.25 a drink in every hand:

this work week seems to have really flown by. i couldn't be happier about it, either. i was actually thinking of calling in to have a three day weekend, but i opted not to. i'll play that car when the girl gets back into town. i'm really looking forward to just relaxing over the next couple of days, though.

of course…not much relaxing will probably happen, with these retarded painters that are painting our building. these bastards were outside my third floor window at 9am, this morning, hammering on the window frames, drilling at god knows what, and yelling at each other about cigarettes. i was tempted to open the window and shove one of the stupid motherfuckers right off the scaffolding. they also somehow managed to knock out my phone jack at some point, yesterday. i would imagine that it happened sometime around the erection of said scaffolding. i now have to go downstairs to use the phone. delightful. i will be having a conversation with the landlords tomorrow, hoping to get that fixed.

at some point this week, i cooked up a master plan to start going to bed earlier. i realized that there was no real reason for me to be awake until 5:30am every night (morning) and then sleep right up until i have to come into work. in the past week i have accomplished going to bed before that time a grand total of…one time. and i still slept until 1:30pm, so i guess it really doesn't count. damn.

today at work i had to talk to a guy that sounded exactly like ned flanders. it was incredibly hard to not bust out laughing the entire time. poor bastard.

2003.09.22 you're another coat of red in hell:

it's been a long week and a short weekend. i ended up heading out to the girl's parents' house to spend the weekend with her. this thing with her living out of town is starting to get to me. either way, i got to spend some good time with her and had a couple of good homecooked meals. i never realized how much i like turkey burgers. add a little a1 sauce and it's heaven on a bun.

now i'm back at home. back at home means back at work. and that's where the grey weight of monotony weighs in. i wouldn't mind my job so much if i didn't have to come here every day…

last night i got hungry, and since it was really late (3am) i was limited in my choices of what to go get to eat. since i'm sick and tired of taco bell, i opted for steak 'n' shake. well…this didn't turn out to be such a great idea. i pull up to the little speaker thing and notice that they don't have an overhang over the ordering station. since it was pouring down rain, this ended up being a pretty bad thing. i kept trying to order a turkey melt and the girl taking my order kept insisting that i ordered a turkey club. at some point she actually had me ordering a turkey melt and a turkey club. splendid. after about the fourth repeat of my order i stopped and asked her…

"you do realize that it's pouring down rain out here and i am getting incredibly wet, right?"

i repeated my order one last time and was surprised as shit when i got to the window and she actually got it right. i pulled the cherry off my shake and threw it on the ground right outside the drive-thru window in a weak display of defiance.

i saw once upon a time in mexico a couple of weeks ago. it was pretty good.

the new hey mercedes record is good, as well.

other than that? i got nothin'.

2003.09.15 make me come alive:

okay…i can't seem to follow through on my promises to update this thing more often. work's been busy, i've been busy with other stuff, blah blah blah, generic excuse, whatthefuckever, etc. either way, here i am attempting an update. let's see how it goes…

i really don't have a clue what all has gone on since my last post. i know that billy and kevin left for tour (europe with elliott) yesterday. i hope they have a ton of fun. with them gone and the girlfirned spending the next month at her parents' house, that leaves me with no one to hang out with through the week aside from my cat and brooksie. i guess i'll get a lot of reading and videogame playing done. i'm working on a few writing projects, so maybe i'll be able to make myself finish those up…

margaret cho has a blog. margaret cho is funny. so is her blog.

i was really sad to find out that johnny cash had passed away. the girlfriend and i were actually just talking about him getting released from the hospital the day before. it certainly was a shitty way to start the weekend. i ended up down at the bar most of the day, drinking with my cousin, saluting him in the only way we really knew how.

new fugazi show up over at transmission3000. it's from 1999, but it'll blow your socks off. download it asap.

2003.08.30 i'll just go back to pretending i'm living:

geh. to cover for the ridiculous amounts of time i've needed off work this past month, i've had to trade a bunch of shifts with other people. i'm now paying the ultimate price by sitting here at my desk on a saturday morning. technically it's saturday afternoon, right now, but i wouldn't even be up yet under normal circumstances, so i'll still call it morning.

clyde actually decided to wake me up at 7am, this morning. i was a little pissed off, mainly because i still had two hours left to sleep. i politely told her to go to hell and escorted her back downstairs.

it's also nice and rainy outside, so it feels like time is crawling by.

i guess the good thing is that i'm out of here by 7pm. the fact that 7pm is five and a half hours away is the big problem i have.

i think i'll have myself a nice nap when i get home.

not much else is going on, really. the girlfriend has gone home for the weekend. something about going out of town with her family to visit her sister. hope she's having fun.

paul curry just emailed to let me know that i owe a grand total of $151.50 in fines for my little traffic ticket from a few weeks ago. the reason my case was lost? the cop that wrote the ticket – that didn't need to be there – that i actually never saw that morning (and i was there good and early) somehow took my case jacket out of the docket box and carried it around for 90 minutes, not even trying to locate me. luckily paul was able to locate it and get two charges dismissed, leaving me with the previously mentioned fine.

thanks a million to paul curry. he's a prince amongst men.

2003.08.28 won too few in one too many:

it's been an eventful week, i'd say…

we went up to chicago over the weekend to see radiohead. the tickets said the show started at 7pm. we then drove the hour from chicago to the place where the show was. well…then we got stuck in radiohead parking traffic for another hour. not a big deal, though…we ended up getting there at about 7:30. well…not a big deal until we found out that they started the show early and that radiohead was already playing. we only missed about 4 songs, but it was 4 songs too many.

what we saw of the show was great, though.

tuesday was the one year mark for my girlfriend and i. we went out shopping (not my choice) and then out to eat at the place where we had our first date. the dining experience was kinda piss poor, though. we got sat right next to a server station and a side entrance to the kitchen. we basically had to deal with servers stocking all of their glasses and people whizzing by us. the girlfriend's dinner was lukewarm (at best) by the time it got to us. i wanted to complain, but she wouldn't let me. it all worked out, though…she liked my dinner just fine.

so…this morning i had court. i get there at the proper time and i wait. i wait and wait and no one ever calls my name. i ask the prosecutor to check on it, as my name is on the docket in two different listings, so i wanted to make sure things got taken care of. he brushed me off and so i sat and waited some more.

as fate would have it, my friend paul curry walks into the court room. somehow it had completely slipped my mind that he was a lawyer. he says he'll help me get out of there in a speedy fashion. he checks all the court cases and can't find mine, despite the fact that i have a case number and everything. he checks a couple of different areas and even goes across the hall to the clerk's office to see if they have it. no dice. at this point paul makes copies of all the important documents and then tells me to go ahead and leave. he told me that if my case didn't show up before he left, that he would be back for another case in the evening. he was fairly certain that it would turn up by then, at which point he could get it put back on the docket and resolved quickly enough.

many thanks to paul for being such an ace guy.

and now i'm stuck at work…

2003.08.18 will you stand or run?:

i'm really trying to be better about updating aruond here. i realized that before my last post it had been a full month, so under a week isn't so bad, right?

right?

oh well…

a minor brouhaha has developed over my now aborted attempt to post all the issues of the alan moore/neil gaiman class miracleman online. it's out of print and the rights to the series are currently tied up in court because of a certain ex-spider-man artist who cares more about homerun baseballs and toys than drawing comics. i even got a cease and desist from neil's lawyer. this nice little letter was picked up by a few comics news sites and has been labelled "the nicest cease and desist ever." whatever.

we're going back up to chicago this weekend to see radiohead. they're actually playing in east troy, wisconsin, but who's keeping score?

there's new sets up over at transmission3000. two rocket from the crypt shows from 2001. i've got a rodan set on the way.

here's a few short reviews of some of the comics from last week…

GOTHAM CENTRAL #10:
Great issue, but I thought Batman's involvement kinda ruined it. I'd like to see the cops take care of things on their own.

TEEN TITANS #2:
I'm hooked on this series. I thought the whole "I'm the leader" argument was a little truncated, though. I'm guessing Johns wanted to throw it into a few panels and then trot it back out later on down the line.

KINGPIN #3:
Bruce Jones is writing a tight little series, here. I've always been interested in the Kingpin when he's written properly (like in Bendis' current run of Daredevil), and here I think he is. I love Sean Phillips' art, but his Kingpin just looks kinda dopey. There's no real menace there, i guess. This could be just because Sean's only doing breakdowns, but…

MARVEL 1602 #1 (Of 8):
Great first issue. Gaiman sunk his hooks into me right off the bat. I'm really into the various mysteries of this story. Andy Kubert is really kicking some ass on this one, as well. Helped in no small part by Isanove's brilliant colors.

TROUBLE #2 (Of 5):
I don't know why everyone is bitching…I really like this book. It could just be that I'm a total sucker for the Dodsons' art, but whatever.

ULTIMATE X-MEN #36:
Oh boy! Another issue of Ultimate Marvel Team-up! I'd much rather this book actually be about the X-Men, you know. It's actually starting to get on my nerves.

POWERS #33:
Bendis is starting to tie this arc together nicely. I almost forgive him for that whole monkey thing.

PUFFED #2 (Of 3):
Crosland's art blows me away. I'm really enjoying the story that Layman's telling here, as well. That giant dragon about made my eyes pop out of their sockets.

alright…now that i've cheated and made this post longer…i'm out.

2003.08.12 keep your hands off of my stack:

i keep on neglecting this here weblog. i blame it on the fact that work has been insanely busy, as of late, and i spend an inordinate amount of time just farting around on the computer when i finally get home. or maybe it's writer's block. or maybe i'm just lazy.

krazy fest was the weekend beore last. we had a lot of fun hanging out and watching the endless parade of good bands. friday was spent hanging out with tall, since it was his last day in town. we had a good time and ended up getting seriously trashed by the time we had to take him to the airport. you know…at 6am.

krazy fest sunday was spent hanging out with bob, since he was in town with that band of his. we basically sat up at the crab shack for a while, drinking a good amount of beer. in the sun. always a good time.

the week seemed to blur past and then we get to this past weekend…

the girlfriend and i decided to go up to chicago for the wizardworld comic convention. this has to be one of the most geeky things i've ever done in my entire life, but i don't care. not at all. it was a ton of fun. i ended up hanging out and talking with a lot of my favorite comic creators and scored a ton of original sketches by most of them. i had my little theme going, so i had them all do hellboy. you can see them all here.

i also picked up some wizardworld exclusive comics that i realized i didn't really want, at all. i've since put them up no ebay, so if you want to buy something, check out my auctions. I'll be adding a ton of old 7" records to ebay in a few days, so make sure to check back.

ummm…yeah. that's about it.

2003.07.29 dead is dead :

wow. been a little while since i've updated, huh? well…since certain people have decided to poke and prod, i'll spill some more all around uninteresting details of my boring life…

the girlfriend came home for one night on saturday. that was really great, as i've been getting down lately because i don't get to see her enough. we went to the bar to hang out with some friends and it was a damn fine evening. she's coming back on sunday, i think, so i'm looking forward to that, as well.

speaking of people getting back in town, kevin and tall finished up their tour through japan with elliott, so we (being me and billy) ended up meeting up with them at the bar. we originally only went out for one drink, but as it ended up, we were still drinking on my front porch at around 6:30 in the am. tall passed out on the couch. kevin couldn't wake him, so he went home. i think we're supposed to rent a movie tonight, but i haven't heard from anyone yet.

more pictures have been added to the 35mm gallery. more shows have been added to transmission3000. the world continues to revolve around the sun.

i am working on a new project, though. i've started to drag matt into it, but i'm not gonna link it up until we see how it turns out.

time for me to get back to work…
