2001.12.09 words turn to venom:

my weekend seemed pretty uneventful until i sat down to write about it. must have something do do with all the whack dreams i had, last night. one of which involved me making fun of hulk hogan because he drives a yellow honda crx and was cutting the grass at the neighbors house. i assume maybe his dad lived there or something. i also had the prerequisite dreams about girls not wanting me to call them anymore and wishing i would get a puppy for christmas. i seriously hope none of these dreams are connected…

on the way into work, i stopped by the coffeeshop for the usual mocha. today turned out to be quite the victory, it seems…i walked in, they recognized me, they started making the drink, they gave it to me…and they never charged me. score! free coffee is always the way to start the day. i stood there looking at them for a while and then we all were just like "well…see you later. have a good day." one of those uncomfortable "did i just get my coffee for free?" moments.

and then i realized that there's a dooley's bagels right around the corner from work. so i'm seriously getting my day off to the right kind of start.

did i mention that, upon arriving here at work, i had to switch desks? big pain in the ass, as usual. but the new desk? has an intellimouse. score! the hits just keep on rolling.

last night scott and i headed out to monkey drive to catch a free show. we caught wind that irina was playing and that black widows would be playing their first show. since they didn't flyer the show at all, we figured there wouldn't be too many people there, just a loose collection of friends and whatnot. we were wrong. the place was packed. to the gills. and it wasn't very big, to begin with. irina opened up and suitably blew the roof off the place. they play their own brand of rockin' mathrock psychedelia. definitely worth checking out. pilot to gunner played next. i wasn't too into them and i heard a few people say they sounded more like braid than hey mercedes does. heh. i just kept quiet.

and then black widows…wow. featuring ex-members of national acrobat and by the grace of god, you could only expect some good rock, and they seriously delivered. loud, fast, and in your face. they'll be playing indy, chicago, and cincy over the next month, so if you get a chance, check them out. i'm hoping to record them when they play here again next sunday. keep your eyes peeled for that one…

hopefully this day stays as good as it's started…

2001.12.05 i was a short fuse burning all the time:

i'm sorry to inform you that today's bipolar has pretty much been cancelled due to the fact that i don't have shit to say, really.

my vertigo poster came in. we have a phone line at the house now. the guy from the place i bought my gibson knobs called to confirm my order to make sure he sends me the right thing. what a swell guy. scott is pretty much moved in. i'm reviewing shit for lost at sea now.

it's the end of my work week and i'm incredibly drained. there's a lot of things that i'd like to talk about, like the first issue of dark knight 2 shipping today, but i just can't find the words. now that there's a working computer at the house, expect me to post over the weekend.

and kate would like to say that i'm a "rockstar by association." put that in your pipe and smoke it.

2001.12.04 what more do you want from me?:

it's official. i'm the happiest motherfucker on the planet…coalesce will be touring in march and april. now i'm trying to get stacy to let me go with them.

this has to be the best news of the month.

2001.12.04 there's only room for one:

skipped the coffee and headed straight to orange juice, this morning. this is only notable because i bought orange juice on the way into work, when i have two fucking cartons of the shit in the fridge at home. why did i do this? because by the time i thought about drinking orange juice while i was at home, i was already brushing my teeth for the morning. let's just say the tastes of minty fresh breath and orange juice don't quite go together like peanut butter and chocolate. dig?

have you ever bought an article of clothing, thought it was really keen, then you get it home, throw it on, and you don't like it as much? and then a couple weeks (or months) later, you dig it out of your closet and you're like "man i fucking love this shirt!" and you put it on and this time…it clicks? yeah. that's me and this shirt i'm wearing today. we weren't really cool before, but now we're totally down. and yes…it came from the gap. kill me if you must.

another thing i guess i need to admit…i was thinking of hiding it from the general public, but i figure i can't get away with it forever: i watched ally mcbeal last night. and i watched it a week ago, too. and i'm fairly certain i watched it the week before that, though i'm not sure. just to set the record straight, i'm obviously watching it because of the incredibly attractive girls. and maybe i find it funny. and maybe i think it's cool that james marsden (cyclops from the x-men movie) is on the show now. and that jon bon jovi will also be on the show soon. it all adds up, i'm tellin' ya.

so i went into the breakroom on a mad search for dunkin' stix (so what if it's an addiction?). i was startled to find…there were none. so i scoured the snack machines on all the floors, eventually finding my prize in the basement. after buying the dunkin' stix, i realized…i am now in possession of the last thing of dunkin' stix in this entire building. and just so you know…i'm about to eat the last fucking dunkin' stick. now they are all. gone.

small victories. sometimes you just have to take them as they come.

2001.12.03 i've waited hours for this:

just a note to point out that i've written three new reviews for 75 or less. today's targets are the new get up kids and bluetip odds and ends discs and the sultans full-length. jon called me a "pioneer of shit references in music journalism" or something.

2001.12.03 promise me you'll still be mine:

as far as karma goes, i think i'm covered today. when i stopped at the heine to grab my morning mocha, i saw this guy seth that i sorta know waiting for a bus at the bus stop. i went over, said "hi," then asked him where he was headed. he said he was headed to the library downtown, so i offered him a ride, even though it was totally out of my way. why did i do this? well…(a) i wanted to be a nice guy. seth seems like i really cool fella, and i enjoyed hanging out with him (i met him through "the girl"). and of course, (b): when i used to have to tarc around to get to work, i used to see people i know drive by in their cars, secretly fantasizing that they would drop what they were doing and give me a ride to my final destination. this ongoing fantasy world has led me to start picking up friends i see waiting at bus stops on a infrequent, but semi-regular basis. so i guess i've taken care of my good deed for the day.

now i can be a total shit for the rest of the afternoon.

anyhowways…matt says they finally announced "it". i'm sure i'm not the first to say it's totally lame.

i think they should make a rule that if you watch full metal jacket, platoon, and stripes…you should be exempt from military service.

i had this big, long post percolatin' last night, but i forgot what i was gonna say, exactly. maybe i'll figure it out later…

scott is pretty much moved in now. he's spent the last 3 nights at the apartment, so i guess he's starting to feel more at home. of course…he's still sleeping on his couch instead of his bed, so what do i know? i guess he's waiting until he gets his room completely unpacked or something.

i'm still waiting on my two low priced splurges that i recently ordered from the internet: a reproduction vertigo poster and some gibson tophat knobs for my sg. nothing fancy, i'm just waiting for these items to get to the house. the poster has already been shipped, so hopefully i'll get it soon…

i reviewed the new end original album a while back over at 75 or less. i'm gonna work on reviews for the new get up kids collection and the sultans cd. look for those later today or tomorrow.

other than that, my energy levels are quickly declining…must find more caffeine…

2001.12.02 i wish i'd stayed asleep today:

sometimes the weekend is too short, but other times…it drags on forever. this weekend seemed to stretch out well past reason. not to say i didn't have any fun…it was just…incredibly long.

thursday night i sat at home with "the girl" (who isn't really the girl, which i'm pretty much reminding myself constantly) and watched vertigo. it was a nice night. it has to be my favorite hitchcock movie, hands down. jimmy stewart throws down his best performance ever. his complex, haunted scotty is simply mesmerizing. i'm pretty sure the girl liked the movie, as well.

friday sean and i drove up to cincy to catch hey mercedes at bogarts. the show was sold out and the place was absolutely packed. i wish i had taken the joycam. we watched from the back of the stage and it was just a sea of kids. it was completely insane. hey mercedes rocked the house, as did saves the day. thursday didn't play because their singer was sick the day before. from what i hear, he spent four hours in the hospital in colombus, oh with a stomach flu. doesn't sound fun. thanks to tucker for loaning us his pass to get sean out of that horrendous line.

saturday i was going to hang out with the girl again, but she cancelled. i didn't really talk to her, after that. i ended up sitting at home, watching cops and playing grand theft auto 3. i also watched part of stripes and then helped scott move his gigantic mattress thing. talk about your fun weekend activities.

and now…work. when i stopped off to get the mocha, this morning, i noticed that they had big cut-out toy soldiers in front of the coffee shop. this was neat until i noticed…one of them has a happy face, while the other is clearly frowning. why the hell would a christmastime toy soldier be frowning? i asked the girls in the coffee shop about, and apparently it was an issue with them, as well. one of the girls even decided she was going to draw a smile on a piece of paper and tape it over the soldier's face. sounds kind of like a forced happiness, to me. maybe he's just suffering from the traditional "holiday depression."

hey, toy soldier…are you down for the same reasons i am? well buck up, champ…it only gets worse.

2001.11.28 i believe there's someone wishin' nosebleeds on me:

what's worse than having to go to the county clerk's office to renew your registration and get a new title issued for your car? how about going to the clerk's office and having their computers go down and getting sent to another branch to wait with a million other people wanting to do the same kinds of complicated transactions.

me (taking a ticket from the number dispenser thing): alright! number 14! not long now…
woman at clerk's office: now serving…72.
me: shit.

try waiting for 3 hours, just to get to the front and find out that the stupid bitch that worked at the bank (and quit three days after she arranged your loan) forgot to notarize one of the important signatures on the title for the car. yep. waited three hours and couldn't do a fucking thing. i wanted to strangle someone.

so i have to somehow try to take care of that today. yay. more waiting.

other than that, it was a relaxing evening at home. scott came over (he's still in the in-between phase where he's sleeping at his old pace out of habit) and we played some guitar until he passed out asleep in the floor while i watched letterman. we watched the beginning of conan, realized his guests were all pretty lame, and he left and i went to bed. exciting times, i tell ya.

i've come to the forgone conclusion that bluetip's second album is simply…amazing. whenever i can't think of a cd i want to hear, i throw it in and it instantly becomes "what i wanted to hear." not many cds can do that for you, y'know.

this weekend is the hey mercedes show in cincy. i'll be heading up for that on friday night. thus far, i think i'm going alone. drat.

how about that seven questions with the puffin, yesterday, huh? pretty awesome? i wish that fucker hadn't quit posting to his website…

speaking of websites, i thought kate worked for nme. well…she doesn't, but she's got a nifty website, anyway…

my horoscope for today:
you know what you want, and you know exactly how to get it. as the moon enters your own sign, chasers of money or romance are suddenly finding themselves instantly rich. friends that expect you to entertain them certainly won't be disappointed, taurus. it's been a while since your birthday, but the toys keep pouring in. as long as you say please and thank you, you can expect to be the most popular person at the party.

damn…that sounds like a heapin' helpin' of positivity. i'm sure i'll find some way to screw it up…

2001.11.26 caught in the crossfire:

if there's one thing i hate, it's annoyingly stupid people. there's this guy that's walked by my desk five times today. this isn't really out of the ordinary, since i sit right next to a moderately traveled walkway. the problem is, every time he walks past,…he's singing to himself. even worse…he can't carry a fucking tune!

proposed conversation:
me: hey man…you hear that?
singing guy: huh? what? what do you mean?
me: that horrible fucking yapping noise! my god…it's coming from…your fucking mouth!

it needs to be done, people…

to top it off, i can't even eat my lunch in peace. i'm sitting in the breakroom, trying to eat my breadsticks (mmmm…bread dipped in cheese…), when these guys start talking about digimon. incessently. these are those typical anime nerds that you would expect to work in an internet place like this, but still… one of the guys was sitting there saying "evidently they are taking the card game and trying to make a cartoon out of it." well, moron…there's no trying about it. the finished product is on the tv, right the fuck in front of you. idiots, i tell you.
