it's been a wild week, to say the least. before i get into all the bad shit, i should probably go ahead and mention that i got new shoes. i'm excited about the shoes because i spent a while trying to get ahold of a particular pair, and i have finally been successful. my new shoes are rockin'. be jealous.
so i'm without a car for the moment. this is because it's in the shop getting the window fixed. this is because a couple of nights ago, some asshole decided it would be a good idea to break into my car and steal my stereo, all my cds, and other assorted junk. to top it all off, he decided to fuck up my air vent, as well. isn't it enough that you busted my window and stole all my shit, violating my little honda right out in front of the girl's house while we slept? you really didn't need to cause the extra damage, dickhead.
has anyone seen my deh-p7400mp? if you do see it, tell it i miss it and want it to come home.
in other "news"…i would be writing this from my "new" computer, if the thing weren't such a piece of shit. i'll have to spend the next couple of days completely reinstalling the os and all my software, i guess. i was even gonna update the webcam (be afraid…very afraid). this is why i decided to send in my own story to the apple switch campaign. maybe they'll use it. seriously…have you ever seen that episode of friends where joey acts like a total stranger's porsche is his own? that's me with scott's imac.
make due. expect a new update as soon as the hunk of shit upstairs is working.
since i've obviously been neglecting my "blogging duties", i figured i should check in with a bit of a status report…
first off…it's nappy roots day, here in kentucky. everyone celebrate. everyone feel nappy.
i've been mia because i've been spending an inordinate amount of time away from the computer. you know, work…hanging out in the bar…other stuff. nothing terribly exciting. i'll try to stay a little more frequent whenever i can.
this, ladies and gentleman is where the blogging craze hits the proverbial wall: i have absolutely nothing of interest to say. this is why you're better suited reading cnn.
hrm…last saturday (or the saturday before last…whatever) was pretty nutty. i had a few drinks with john as we wandered about the neighborhood, ending up at cahoots. i had a couple more and then headed over to elizabeth's to see if she wanted to do some hanging out. she ended up declining on the grounds that she was painting her living room. talk about fun. i decided to go back to the bar to grab one last drink and then help elizabeth paint. ahhh…the best laid plans always go completely awry. when i got back to the bar, john was hoisting a bourbon and coke at me, saying "meet my new buddy jason! he works for elektra records!" apparently some guy from elektra was in town due to him having to drive across country in a big rv. he coincidentally parked right across the street from cahoots and wandered in for a drink. and right into our world of drunken insanity…
we spent the rest of the night drinking our asses off on the company's tab (his idea) and laughed as he told us that he sold his soul a long time ago. needless to say i had a hell of a lot more than one last drink. when i got back to elizabeth's…there wasn't much painting going on…just sweet slumber.
so when they write the textbook on how to have a bad day, the one i had yesterday will figure heavily into the equation. i somehow spaced out and spilled abou a gallon of coffee all over the counter at work, which was a hoot to clean up. then when i went to get lunch, i almost got into a fight with some redneck in the parking lot. he was parked across three spaces, eating a sandwich. ithe only other open spot was right in front of his truck. we exchanged quite a few words. i ended up saying "get out of the truck and we'll deal with this." he didn't. he kept saying "leave that car there and see what happens."
i found out what happens: he let all the air out of my tire. if i ever see that guy again, his head is getting broken open.
other than that, i managed to salvage the evening. i went out to see the red taled hawk and the pine club at this wanna-be swanky place downtown. it was a decent show, mainly because i didn't have to pay to get in. the drinks were astronomically priced. definitely not a place you'll see me in very often. i ran into a certain katie ryan and ended up giving her a ride home when her friend needed to bail.
after that, we ended up at cahoots. $1.50 high life. you can't beat it. somewhere after that…i went to bed.
and now off to work…
so i figured since i haven't been hearing shit about a baseball strike, it never happened. i looked on the espn site and actually had to dig to find a mention of it. nothing like something getting built up so big and then becoming…nothing. a non-issue.
otherwise my life has been pretty boring. i just sit around with scott, discussing our plans for halloween. i'm also spending a large chunk of time on a newly surfaced "girl problem." nothing exciting. just seems to be occupying most of my free time. maybe i'll sort it out and move on to my next big "girl problem" project. maybe that's how i should think of them…as projects. sounds much better, that way.
today is wednesday, but it's not comic day because of the holiday. matt and i are still doing the ritual, just with nothing to read. we may be forced to talk to each other. perish the thought.
i've come to a startling realization: i am pointless. i have no point.
so it's been a pretty packed few days. my friend john went into the hospital with a slight gastro-intestinal issue, we picked him up the next day. he had to spend his entire birthday in the hospital. to make it better, we spent friday drinking our asses off, starting at 4 in the afternoon. we were just wandering around with cups of bourbon, enjoying the day. this took it's toll on john, though…he passed out at 9 that night.
rewind to thursday: your black star played at the rud and we hatched an awesome halloween plan. let's just say that if you're from louisville or live close to louisville…you might want to make your travel plans now. more details to come…
fast forward to saturday: i spent the afternoon eating out with jess who is in town from dallas. we went to ramsi's and had a nice lunch. she invited me to a barbecue later in the evening, but i had already made plans to go to john's birthday dinner at his mom's house. and what a dinner it was…corn on the cob, cheesy potatoes, baked beans, buttered noodles, salad, baked ham…the works. top that all off with cake and ice cream and a few beers, and you have my saturday evening spent in heaven.
we all decided to meet up later at the kilowatthours show. it was my first show with them since we "parted ways," and only their second show with "the new guys." i think i got a little too drunk and told them they sounded like shit. i mean…they didn't sound nearly as bad as i remember telling them they did, if that makes sense.
and then to cahoots. and then to bed.
and now to work…
well…scott now has a complete skateboard. after hearing him talk about thrashing and poolriding since watching dogtown and z-boys, i guess it's time for him to kick his dreams into gear and go buck. or fall a lot. one or the other. we'll see how it goes. hopefully he doesn't end up in prison like jay adams…
we watched chopper the other night. i think i have a new hero.
i have now decided that easy mac is one of the greatest inventions ever. it's like zap, stir…mac and cheese! i think it must be magic…
not much else happening, really. enjoying my second day off in a row. i've come to realize how uninteresting life is when you don't have to work. you kinda just lay around, read, watch tv, and play video games. i guess there's really nothing wrong with any of that…
saturday night didn't end up with me doing as much drinking as i had planned. i went to cahoots and had a couple of cold ones and a basket of fries. i ran into rebecca and ended up seeing a girl i went to high school with. it was a pretty bizarre situation because i was never "cool" enough for her to talk to back in our school days (being one of he token skateboarder/punk rock kids), but she was all about chatting me up at the bar. i asked her what she had been doing since her release from hell and she mentioned moving to florida for 3 years, to which i answered "i hate florida." typical response from me, i guess.
after that i opened the store on sunday morning and then scott and i had a sparsely attended cookout. it doesn't really matter who was there, though…the burgers were great and the corn was cooked to perfection. the few people that did show up hung out and we all drank our asses off to celebrate the end of summer (classes at u of l started the next day). fun was had by all, i'm sure.
now i'm just kickin' it, enjoying my day off. maybe i'll try to do something constructive today…like drink myself to death.
well…i'm back from chicago. we had a whirlwind jam-packed weekend in the "windy city," to say the least. the first place we hit once we got into town was the always amazing flattop grill. i introduced my cohorts (rebecca, star and mr. king himself) to one of my favorite places on the planet to eat. everyone ended up stamping it with their own personal seal of approval. i finally busted out some plum sauce and an egg, for all those who know what he hell i'm talkin' about.
after that it was straight to the double door to see hot snakes. we only missed the first band, and i almost wish we had missed the second, they were pretty standard. pretty boring. and the drinks were too damn expensive (and weak) to make them any more interesting. so we suffered through by making fun of the various chicago people that look like bizarro versions of our friends here at home.
then hot snakes hit the stage. and the roof of the place was completely blown off. it was hot as a motherfucker up in there, but we still stuck it out in the very front. they played all the hits, including an old pitchfork song. simply amazing. they closed their first set with salton city and early on in the song, john (reis. speedo. whatever) took the mic off the stand and shoved it in my face so i could scream "give us a kiss." if you don't know what i'm talking about, go back and listen to that first hot snakes record, stat!
when they were done playing, we filed our sweaty asses outside to get some much needed fresh air. we followed some friends of rebecca's back to their place to stay the night. now…i've been in some sketchy places before, but this place was truly a dump. the guys were cool as hell, but i seriously thought a rat was going to jump out of the nearest pile of whatever and bite my fucking face off. we ended up walking down the street to some horribly overlit dive of a bar and had one drink before getting pissed off about more weak drinks and overly creeped out by all the light. back to the dump. straight to sleep.
today we hit the art institute to see a huge exhibition of gerard richter's paintings. tons of amazing stuff. really. go see it asap.
and then we came home.
and now i'm typing this.
and now i'm gonna go get some serious drinking done.
i'd probably think it was mildly amusing that i get so completely disoriented when my alarm goes off at 5:45am. you know…if it wasn't 5:45 in the damn morning. this morning i woke up and was wondering what the fuck that noise was and tried to turn on my light, which promptly blew out. so here i am, flashblind and not knowing where the fuck i am and what the living hell is going on.
pretty much like the rest of my life, i guess.
i hate my new toothpaste, but i sure do love my naked juice.
to hell with it…time to drive to work.
i keep dilly-dallying and generally fucking around and forgetting to update this wacky l'il site. i would make a promise to be more regular with my updates, but that would be a promise, and i'm not feeling very 100% about those, at the moment.
speaking of "regular"…all this coffee i've been drinking has been working wonders.
so last night i was all content to call it an early night and go to bed at a reasonable hour, mainly because i had to open the store this morning (i had to be there at 6:30am). that plan got thrown in the trashheap at around 11pm when a couple of co-workers (my manager being one of them, no less) called up and wanted to hang out. we sat on my back deck shooting the shit and drinking a bunch of beer until about 2 in the morning. then i tried to go to bed, not succeeding at falling asleep for some time. i got up at 5:45, getting a grand total of about 3 hours of sleep.
and then work. and massive amounts of coffee.
and then home. and lunch. hopefully soon a nap. i have to open again tomorrow. i am so not a morning person.
this weekend: chicago. hot snakes. flattop grill. beer. fun.
