today's mp3 is brought to you by paul and the letter uhh…w.
today i realized how much i hate some of the people i work with. there's this one girl who is really condescending toward me and it makes me want to punch her in the face. case in point…
:::warning! stupid work story!:::
the other day this order came sliding through the works to design this flyer for this boxing event. they basically wanted me to recreate the original which had these boxing hornets on it. but the girl i hate was like "just leave that area blank. we'll copy the artwork onto it from the old flyer." i just looked at her and said "it would be much easier to just scan the graphic and place it, and then run the copies." she scoffed, got haughty with me and said "look…we're just gonna do a paste-up. just leave the space, okay?"
so i did. i laid the whole fucking thing out and left them their big stupid white space.
well today i'm sitting back there and she walks in with the same order…the altercation went a little like this…
her: look…you really need to scan this graphic. you should have done that in the first place.
me: well…you told me not to.
her: well…you should have done it.
keep in mind that she's not agreeing with my previous stance…she's getting shitty with me because i didn't scan the graphic in the first place. where's a switchblade when you really need it?
yeah…and the muzak in that place makes me want to kill myself.
but i did use company time to design the cover to the march mix, which i'm sure i'll end up posting here, sooner or later.
don't fuckin' con-den-send me, man…i'll fuckin' kill ya man.
tonight was coffee with matt and paul. i'm really glad paul has hopped into our little semi-regular caffeine ritual. kinda like i hopped right into their friday night bar trip ritual. and started expanding it with scott and chris, on occasion.
needless to say, we had a good ol' time, talking about all kinds of random crap, such as u2 and their newfound relevancy in the u.s. of a (i don't quite understand it) and how the last r.e.m. record was a big letdown. paul was a fan of up, but the last outing of their's that i considered worthwhile was new adventures in hi-fi. as ever, we could debate that one until the dawn and both end up saying "i see your point."
yeah. then we left the coffeeshop walking like bono.
i did all kinds of incredibly interesting things today. such blockbuster hits as…sleeping too late! laundry! eating! and encoding stuff from tape onto the computer! seriously…you only wish you could live as far out on the edge of life as i do. i'm so far out there, my white ass is flappin' in the breeze.
and don't you forget it.

guilt – off white
taken from the out of print release synethesia and some old tape comp, as well as the guilt discography cd
(recorded in 1993)
i made jon pick the second track of the feature, and he decided on this one. i think he referenced it being "intense" which is an understatement. for those of you not well-versed in your guilt, they were a louisville band that rocked ass like there was no tomorrow. this song really showcases their power and still stands as one of my favorite guilt tunes of all time.
ps: scott says "that track isn't rare!" but, hey…who cares. it's rare enough.
ben just informed me that a few kilowatthours songs were on japanese radio sometime in the recent past. you can check it out here. we kick in at right around the 46 minute mark, and he does a cool little intro over "completely normal."
from ben: the japan take over begins! (slowly)…
i've been sitting around, debating on what i should do now that transmission3000 is back up, but i can't update it. the debate has raged for the better part of ten minutes, now…and what have i decided?
a new regular feature on my side of bipolar, over here. ladies and gentlemen (and people with hooks for hands) i present you with…
the live and/or rare mp3 of the day (or so)!
these will be tracks that wouldn't find their way to transmission3000 for one reason or another, mainly because they're just isolated tracks and whatnot. keep in mind that there is enough live radiohead and pink floyd on this computer to keep this feature going well into the next century. consider yourself warned. i'm also forgetful and/or lazy, so i may not get to this every day (hence the name of the feature). consider yourself warned (again).
so without further ado, here's the first installment of…

the white stripes – jolene
live at the bbc – 7.25.2001
enjoy.
last night i thought it would be a great idea to hit the bar with matt, paul, and scott. until 3am. that didn't go over so well at work when i got there at 9am. nope. that pretty much sucked. needless to say i feigned sickness and left early…
i got home and ended up going to the guitar shop with scott. then i ended up curling up for a good long nap. the only way to go.
i got up and it was dark out, so as far as scott and i were concerned, it was time to drink and watch a james bond movie. diamonds are forever. damn straight. since abc started their bond saturdays, i've been "bout it, bout it." you can quote me on that.
chris called and wanted us to meet him up at cay-hoots. so we did. and he ended up leaving way before we did, as usual. scott and i hung out and shot the shit with the usual assortment of…people.
did i mention matt and paul blew us off? they did. but it's all water under the proverbial bridge. i guess. we forgot all about it after the fourth drink or so…
let's see…i could relate to you all how everyone i work with is a total fucking moron. i could tell you all about cooking myself a big dinner that involved…stupid food. i could tell you all about not going to a show tonight because i wanted to hang out with matt, instead. and then there's the fact that i really didn't want to go to the show in the first place (for many reasons: no money, people i didn't care to see, no money, and…something else, i'm sure).
or i could just tell you about nothing, which is the usual order of business…
march 1st. here's the mix of the month:
in like a lion, out in a coffin
out of the races and onto the tracks – the rapture
act surprised – superchunk
queen of pain – alkaline trio
hot fast union – bluetip
it's only rock and roll – the rolling stones
cut self not – faraquet
rascuache (live) – at the drive-in
petting the beast – evergreen
happiness is all the rage – the promise ring
hello morning – fugazi
10 Minutes – the get up kids
dancers and acrobats – kilowatthours
when the levee breaks – led zepplin
doris – shellac
unsung zero – small brown bike
how soon is now? – quicksand
talk show host – radiohead
that about covers it.
speaking of covers, here's what i ended up with for the february mix.
and while i'm linking to images…here's the kilowatthours poster that was designed for us by mr. jay ryan (of dianogah). i'd just like to say…it's beautiful.
yeah…i work with a bunch of morons and i made myself a big dinner that involved stupid food.
i figured that after a night of taking care of scott's drunk ass and another long night of whoring it in the place that will only be referred to as "hell"…i deserve a night of my own at the bar. lucky for me, chris called and wanted to meet me up at cahoots for beer and killing shit. we hung out, drank a lot, and killed an inordinate amount of digital deer. conversation topics covered everything from the coming tour to billy idol and everything between. "you shoulda been there" is an understatement.
now i'm sitting at home, drinking gatorade, hanging out with my cat on my lap, giving the march mix a test listen. so far, so good.
i've realized that i've lost patience with everyone i work with. this is bad mainly because i've only been back for about a week and a half. everytime they talk to me, i geet all grumbly and walk off. splendid. typical brian way of dealing with idiots.
i mean…i know it's only rock and roll. but…i like it.
so i've decided to start doing a monthly mix cd again. i figure, now that i'm back at the old job, printing covers is a snap. and free. i've already started work on the one for march. it's turning out to be a gloves off rockfest. keep your eyes peeled for details.
yesterday was an absolutely beautiful day, which is quite rare for this time of year. today…snow. this exemplifies why those beautiful days are so rare…
but…snow is beautiful too. right?
i officially hate the bastards at nbc. first they get me addicted to scrubs. when i finally come to grips with the fact that i work past when it's on, i set the vcr to tape it. well…the fuckers trumped me. they put that new show, that god damn watching ellie, in scrubs spot without telling me. you'd think the fuckers could have sent a memo. you know "hey, brian…we're moving scrubs to 9:30 so we can play this hip new show that we won't let run past 4 episodes because it sucks." thanks, assholes. now i have a tape of the pilot for watching ellie. splendid.
bastards. you won't be able to pull that shit on me next week…hell no. i'm checking tvguide.com before i program anything. ha!
damn snow.
