2000.08.04 keep it quiet, keep it clean:

interesting addendum to yesterday's free starbucks comment: it seems as if my little coupon should actually say "free starbucks for life." it's kinda like thor's hammer…it keeps returning to me. which is a good thing. because i wouldn't be paying that much fucking money for coffee when i could just go down the street to heine brothers and get it done cheaper and better. but i guess you can't get any cheaper than free. not that i won't continue to patronize "the heine." it's my favorite place for coffee in this crazy town. the starbucks thing just solves my whole "paying for coffee while at work" problem.

now that that is out of the way…adam at kempa.com has posted an interesting article about the relation between the smiths and guns 'n' fuckin' roses. he stretches a bit, and a lot of the things are like saying "both bands are controversial," but it's an enjoyable read, nonetheless.

i lied yesterday. sebastian did update signal drench…to say that he's on vacation and won't be updating signal drench…

maybe i'll have more to say later…

2000.08.03 you're so pretty when you're on your knees:

it's been a while since i've felt like i had anything of importance to say. i still don't feel like i do, but paul pointed out that it's been something like 2 weeks since i've updated, so i thought i better get on the ball.

besides…feeling like i had nothing to say has never stopped me before…

adam at kempa.com has updated a couple of times in my absence. scoot over there and check it out.

signal drench, on the other hand…well…let's just say that sebastian is…indisposed…

i'm getting free shit from hershey. i bought a pack of rolos yesterday, and only 3 of them actually had caramel in them. no shit. the rest were solid chocolate. when i called the nice people at hershey, the operator was quite shocked. "rolos are supposed to have caramel in them," she gasped. well, rest assured, they're sending me compensation for my loss.

i also got free starbucks. that story isn't interesting at all. not in the slightest. free coffee, though.

out.

2000.07.21 the vultures are well fed:

bittersweet news. starbucks has opened their first store here in louisville. true, we enjoyed starbucks coffee in their cafes in barnes and noble, but this is the first stand alone store. let me tell you…i love them frappucinos. i really do. but after talking to the girl at the counter about how many starbucks thereare in chicago, she looked at me and said "it'll be that way here, too, by september." i said "oh really?" and her reply was "that's the plan." at that point she actually made a little wink like expression…like she was letting me in on the plan for world domination. i'm kinda scared about this. what does this mean for some of the smaller coffeehouses in my neighborhood? will starbucks invade the highlands (my neighborhood) with guns a'blazin'? truly something to think about…

adam updated kempa.com with a few interesting links. okay…not a few. one. one interesting link. and then a link he stole from his site he linked to.

us|against|them has some interesting links. including one to dan from sunny day making fun of nate mendel and the foo fighters. as a side note, i just noticed that us|against|them is hosted by hypermart. i'm not really gonna comment on that at this time. but i will comment on the fact that mark over there has some good taste in 70's hanna barbera icons. i'm very pissed off that i couldn't find a good god damn hong kong fuey site to link to…

i think i'll just shut the fuck up for now.

2000.07.19 this one's our's lets take another:

okay…i promise this is probably the last word i'll have on the x-men movie for a while…

but after seeing it for the 4th(!) time last night, i think i'll point out some of the minute details. some i was seriously impressed with, others…well…

here goes:
the complete (as far as i saw it) run down of cameos in the film were:
the trucker that gave rogue a ride is the guy that did the voice for the beast in the x-men animated series, and stan lee is on the beach.

kids at the academy were:
jubilee, kitty pryde, danielle moonstar, james proudstar (thunderbird), colossus (he's only there for a split second as the camera pans to the boy running across the water), iceman, pyro, sam guthrie (cannonball), and then there's the kid reading on the bad when the jet takes off…i'm voting that that's a young henry mccoy (beast)…but others might disagree.

gripes i had:
the (previously mentioned by matt) screws in wolverine's claws. the nazi soldier wearing what appeared to be a nylon windbreaker in 1944, and wolverine's wounds opening back up when rogue absorbs his powers at the end. why would that happen if his powers already healed the wounds?

anyway, it was a great fucking movie, and i think i've now said my piece on it.

adam updated kempa.com. there's a few funny links in there, so it's worth checking out.

beef time pt. 2: i have a sreious problem with one aspect of kerroo: she apparantly wrote some skunky ass javascript that makes ie 5 choke on it wanting to debug her page. it's been this way for a couple of weeks now, so maybe she just doesn't know about it…

cool shit i found while searching around aimlessly: the complete text of william gibson's novel neuromancer. in a handy text file. this site also has a the script for a neuromancer movie that never got made.

back to the boredom of waiting for 20 seperate oversize prints to finish printing.

2000.07.18 loss of concentration:

well it looks like x-men exceeded everyone's expecetations. taking in the third highest opening day ever (just below the phantom menace and the lost world) at around $27 million.

i'm doing retarded and repetitive work, which requires a lot of waiting, so i'm sitting on my ass looking at sites i haven't seen in a while.

linux is too damn big to download. even while i'm here at work.

kerroo is the winner of the "only weblog that updated over the past couple of days award." she's nothing if not punctual. seems like she's been down lately, so maybe we should try to cheer her up.

interesting new site. hopefully it pans out to look as nice as the "coming soon" page.

as the apple turns has posted their new design for everyone to enjoy. it's a lighter look at the mac world, so we can all indulge our apple fetish. hopefully everyone won't slag them for having the same content under a shiny new covering…

that's it for now, i guess.

2000.07.15 i shut the door with my face:

well…i've seen the x-men twice now. paul got us tickets for an advance screening thursday night, so we got to sit head deep in fanboys and see it on one of the biggest screens in town. that was awesome. but i think it was even more enjoyable the second time around. the reaction by people who have no knowledge of the x-men prior to the film was entertaining. paul's favorite audience quote (on the way out): "damn dawg. that shit was tight." i think that that may very well be a positive reaction… the theatre was packed last night, as well, meaning the movie may very well be a box office success. something marvel has never had (minus blade, but that doesn't count…). i share matt's opinion that after seeing the x-men brought to life in such a cool way, my enthusiasm for a spiderman movie has just been amped by about 1000.

in other x-men hoo-haa: behind the scenes clips to download.

adam has updated kempa.com. he's definitely where i am on this whole x-men issue. and i totaly agree that the movie seemed a bit short.

sebastian hasn't updated signal drench in a few days, and i haven't talked to him in over a week…i guess he's dead.

harry from ain't it cool news has posted a cool article about his recent visit to the set of from hell, yet another comic property getting turned into a movie. if you can get past his witless ramblings, there's actually a good idea of how this film will look and feel.

enough about comics and movies already…

2000.07.13 so batten down the hatches, baby:

i had a slightly better day today, so i should be somewhat tolerable. i get paid tomorrow. money always makes me feel better. aren't i a shallow fuck?

adam updated kempa.com.

indieshite has pretty much moved away from slagging everyone and settled on pitchfork and buddyhead. those brits are damn funny. just look at that pic they have of westy…

short interview with ray park. he's playing toad in the x-men movie (yes i already have plans to be there friday…) and for those completely out of the loop, he provided the best moments of phantom menace as darth maul.

wow. this sounds about as cool as it can fucking get. time to dust off those script ideas…

i had my first ever direct interaction with an internet pyramid scheme. i guess i have to pause to say that i'm a little too busy to sign a contract to sell shampoo for amway.

out.

2000.07.12 how to disappear completely and never be found:

every day that goes by seems to make me more unhappy. i really think i need to just drop off the face of the earth for a year or to and then mysteriously show up again, out of the blue. that's probably a really bad idea, because i would end up finding out that no one noticed i was gone. or worse yet, they were glad i left.

saturn.org is an example of how to write a good weblog. my log is a shining example of how to write a bad one.

i didn't get around to mentioning the redesign over at kempa.com…what should i say? i guess i preferred the old design.

i updated transmission3000 earlier. after it spent the majority of the day completely inoperable to people using internet explorer. oops. i posted some exclusive tracks from a louisville band called drifts get deeper. you should check 'em out, if not just for the awesome cover of the belinda carlisle classic "mad about you."

goodnight. i'll try to be happier next time.

2000.07.07 15 blows to the back of your head:

my every other day syndrome is getting bad. i sit around bored as hell, and never quite realize that there's a number of things i could be doing in my spare time…

sebastian finally updated signal drench. he's actually updated it twice within the past couple of days. probably due to the intense prodding he's been getting from indieshite. but i have to side with the american boys on the street fight issue…

kerroo hasn't mentioned us in a while, so i'll mention the fact that she (as always) has updated as well.

my car got egged the other night. i have a strong feeling that the culprit is the very same miscreant that kicked that dent in the side of my car. which very much was a footprint i found in my very own home. i won't name names, but i would have to say that i'm about 110% positive that it was my now ex-roommate. i almost let the dent thing slide, but the fact that he possibly hunted down my new residence just to be a little cocksucker really pisses me off. it reeks of immaturity, and i would have to go on the record to say that he's a tit-sucking little mama's boy.

thank you. you may now continue your meal.

2000.07.05 keep it quiet, keep it clean:

where to begin? it was a long weekend, and it was actually pretty eventful.

the irish rover incident:
the rover is one of our favorite once-a-month kinda joints. it's a really nice, semi-authentic irish pub. i say "semi" due to the fact that since we're in louisville, ky, in the good ol' usofa, you probably aren't getting the whole irish deal.

anyhowways…we went in on saturday night to have a meal and we were greeted with what could only be described as the worst dining experience of our collective (all be it, young) lives. the waitress (or server, you pick the title) was a complete and total bitch. we could have murdered her right there, in front of close to 50 witnesses and been found innocent by a jury. we would have had to simply use the "bitch defense."

"ladies and gentlemen of the jury, i think we've proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that my clients did indeed kill miss wilson. but let's face the facts. she deserved it. she was a bitch."

she at one point referred to me as "coke guy," and when she took my glass to refill it, she made several stops back to the table before i actually had to ask if i could have my coke back. the worst of all was when i paid my bill in exact change (it was $15 even and i usually wait until i'm leaving to tip) she came back to the table and bitched me out for not tipping her. i was completely fucking dumbfounded. you can only guess how we unleashed on her. paul was drunk and he even ended up ranting on the girls boss before we left.

needless to say, this incident held sway over almost all of our conversations for the rest of the weekend.

onto the business at hand…

indieshite gave us our beatdown. we were labeled "bland but harmless." as adam at kempa.com stated and radiohead clearly proves: "the british are better than us."

next update: the foo fighters incident and more links to retarded shit.
