nothing resets the happy clock like a quiet night of sitting at home, doing nothing. man…i loves me some relaxin'. and let me tell ya…relaxing is a lot easier now that i have this awesome bean bag chair thing that the girl bought for me. it's my new videogame chair. it rules.

we're not going to get back into the studio until monday. it's kinda disappointing on one level and for the better on another. we've now had time to listen to things and see what needs to be fixed, as well as time to finalize the lyrics, since they've changed every show we've played. more time to get things right will never be a bad thing, i don't guess.

another reason we won't be back into the studio until monday is because i'll be in chicago at the wizardworld comic-con all weekend. i must have a sick fascination with revealing incredibly geeky facts about my ridiculously pathetic life. i need to seek help.

that reminds me, though…i really need to burn some cds tonight for the trip. i'm used to my car's mp3 player. the girl's car only has a standard cd player. it's like being back in the stone age…

time to get to pretending to work…

someone (i think it was danny) pointed out that there's currently an open source "history of punk rock" being developed, which has a huge amount of info on the louisville "scene." I've added a few things over the past day (a page for L&N, one for brooksie's old band telavet, a few other odds and ends) and i just generally think it's pretty cool. you should check it out, in a non-beastie boys type way.

last night the girl and i ventured up to spring street for some half price appetizers. we met up with dave and the viking and had a good ol' time. we went home right after that and called it an early night.

i will say that zucchini sticks and hot wings together sound great, but in practical application, they have the tendency to make one's stomach quite…unsettled.

i have nothing else for today.

L&N in the Studio: Day 2:

last night we did all the basic guitar tracks. the punk song actually clicked, once the guitars were a little tighter, which is good. i showed up to the studio to find out that we gave up on the "metal" song and dave didn't even record any bass tracks for it, at all. since he's out of town, we have nothing but scratch tracks and the drums, in case we want to actually do something with it. i think the general consensus is that we'll play it live a few times, see how it's working out, and go from there.

for the record: i hate playing to a click track.

we've got a cd of the rough mixes to listen to for the next week. we go back in next week to fix anything that needs fixing and do guitar overdubs and vocals. i'm looking forward to it.

other than that, the girl and i went up to cahoots for a really late dinner (think 2am). brooksie ended up meeting us up there and we all hung out for a little while, just talking about whatever.

newsflash: i hate my job.

the power went out at about 8am, this morning. it was a bright, sunny day, so i don't quite know why it went out. i could hear sirens a few blocks away, but that was about it. it ended up coming back on about an hour or so later, at which point i had to reset the alarm clock. oh well.

time to get back to whatever i'm supposed to be doing.

L&N in the Studio, Day 1:

last night we tracked all of the drums and bass. we had to get the bass done last night, as dave will be out of town for the rest of the week. we were there until about 6am this morning. i am starting to hate all of our songs. tonight we start tracking guitars. i'm assuming that, at some point, my arm will actually just fall off. covering the damages, pulpit and earth born are all working out really well. the new "punk song" (working title)…not so well. "metal" (another working title) is also starting to look like it may be hitting some snags. i think both songs were really just suffering from us losing steam. we'll see what we can salavge tonight.

good times. i need to invest in a case of amp.

other than that…the show went really well on friday. we rocked out, we drank some beer, we sold some t-shirts…everything was cool. and let me tell you…there's an incredible amount of satisfaction in seeing someone wearing your band's shirt while puking on the bar. proud moments, indeed.

days like this i really hate my job. seriously. one of our market areas recently got bought out by comcast. today they're doing all the transitioning. this basically means that these people are no longer our problem, as they are now comcast customers. splendid! until one particular jackass decides to call me…

jackass: i can't get online.
me: well, sir…it appears you're in a transition area. i can put you in touch with comcast…
jackass: i wasn't notified about this! you'd think they'd let you know about this!
me: well, sir, a letter was sent out, emails were sent out, and there was a note on your last bill.
jackass: you may think that's what happened, but that's not…
me: right, sir. would you like me to transfer you to comcast?
jackass: you don't seem to understand me. we're a national childcare agency and it is costing us money to be offline like this!
me: then we better hurry up and transfer you to the people that can help you with your problem!
*the jackass was then immediately transferred to comcast, with no further discussion of the matter*

show tomorrow night. we are apparently playing with some band called "Amps II Eleven." I'm sure they'll be awesome.

sometimes mondays turn out pretty okay, i guess. last night after work, i headed over to danny's for a little halo action. The usual crew was in attendence. beer was consumed and enjoyed. friends were shot in the face with fake digital shotguns. who says america is a hotbed of violent culture?

while we were over at danny's, brooksie and i were able to see a test print of the l&n shirt. it's so incredibly badass, it's insane. i'm really hoping we'll have them ready by the show on friday.

oh…yeah…we're playing at woody's on friday. they called and asked us to play the show, kinda at the last minute. the info has been added to the l&n page. after the show we're gonna lug everything straight over to the funeral home to start recording on sunday night. let me tell ya…i'm so incredibly excited about lugging everything up those twisty-ass stairs…

the girl is headed home to columbus for the rest of the week. she should be home for the show on friday, which is good.

time for me to get back to not working…

it's nice to have a low key weekend, every once and a while. the girl and i just puttered about and took care of some odds and ends. just a good, lazy weekend.

we had band practice for the first time since the show in tyler park. things sounded great. we've debated practicing again before the show on friday, but i think we decided to get together just to work on some new stuff we're planning to record on sunday.

oh yeah…we start recording on sunday. we'll see how that turns out.

work sucks. coca-cola does not.

we should have l&n t-shirts ready by the show on friday. here's the design. danny "badass mo" cash will be printing them up. that would be because he is, as they say, the fuckin' man.

the mxr distortion + is, quite possibly, the greatest distortion pedal ever made. if you buy one, make sure to get a vintage one without the led.

i have spent an inordinate amount of time writing this very short post.

it seems like my review of black sabbath's paranoid is getting some interesting responses, over at 75 or less. gotta love stuck up indie kids with no sense of humor or love for real rock and roll.

yesterday i got out of work early and went about the arduous task of finding l&n a new practice space. things aren't looking up. i'm sure we'll find something, but this is a royal pain in the ass.

the more i think about it, the more i'm inclined to call yesterday, as a whole, a wash. nothing good came from yesterday. paychecks didn't come in, i had a massive headache, itunes fucked up my mp3 organization, i didn't find us a practice space…all a bunch of bullshit. today hasn't been much better, really.

the girl gets home tonight. the debutantes are playing at the rud, so i think we may squeeze over there to check out the show. sounds like it should be a good time.

other than that…i got nothin'.

well. the show. where to begin?

it was hot out. we sweated a lot. there seemed to be one bottle of water for the entire band to share. the vocals were so loud in my monitor that i heard myself breathing over the guitar. and apparently…my guitar wasn't loud enough.

but: we went over really well. we were instantly booked for another show next month. indoors. l&n developed a new rule, this weekend: no more outoor shows. check the l&n page for more info.

thanks to all of our friends that bothered to show up, none of which actually read this thing, i don't think. oh well…thanks to them, anyway.

sunday was spent lazing around the house and playing baldur's gate dark alliance ii with billy. we beat it. i can now whip through the game with drizzt. this means absolutely nothing to anyone but me and about 73 basement dwelling nerds who…also probably don't read this site.

and then drinks out at the bar with blaine, who still didn't have power. he had his fingers crossed for power to be restored today, so we'll see how that goes.

short update, but i've been busy, here at work. all day long. busy, busy, makesmewanttokillmyself busy.

now i'm going home.
